Registered Nurse Infection Preventionist/Staff Development Coordinator

Position Summary
Responsible for all aspects of nursing training and Infection Control under the guidance of the Director of Nursing.
Essential Duties
- Create and implement the training sessions required by Chapter V of the Colorado Code for Nursing Homes.
- Create inservice outlines and schedule Relias training sessions as needed.
- Keep DON abreast of open positions and need for classified ad.
- Maintain a training log and report to the NHA and DNS weekly the compliance of each team member.
- Conducts regular and as needed general orientation for all new employees.
- Trains new CNAs on general tasks for two to three days. Monitor and assess the on-unit training they will receive on the third or fourth day.
- Maintains a reference library that is organized and accessible to staff, including content information for previous in-services, and updated information on current issues.
- Provides leadership in formulating facility-wide training and education goals and objectives.
- Develops and presents interactive staff training programs on centralized or decentralized basis as needed.
- Provides one-on-one remedial training to address inadequate individual job skills/ knowledge
- Uses various training techniques to optimize staff learning; included may be lecture format, printed materials, hands-on demonstrations, role-playing, group sessions, one-on-one training, unit-based instruction, etc.
- Makes provisions for staff training and education on all shifts and weekends as necessary.
- Develops and publishes monthly training program calendar / schedule.
- Maintains records regarding staff attendance at in-service training sessions
- Participates in general orientation program for new employees providing specialized training in infection control / bloodborne pathogens, Hepatitis B vaccinations and other required clinical information.
- Provides direct supervision to departmental personnel offering training, guidance, coaching and counseling as needed to correct and improve performance and holding them accountable for care-giving practices, record-keeping, dress code standards, attendance, policy compliance, etc.
- Maintains current clinical knowledge and knowledge of nursing home licensure requirements in order to ensure that educational information provided to staff is current.
- Serves as back-up interviewer for nursing department applicants when Assistant Administrator, DON, Assistant DON is not available.
- The SDC is part of the call rotation along with other Nurse Leaders in the facility
Basic Qualifications & Experience
- High school graduate.
- Current licensure as an RN in the State of Colorado.
- Able to organize and maintain paperwork and documentation requirements.
- Ability to work as a team member.

The base range represents the low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
